Remember Your Visiting Teaching

This week was full of many seemingly insignificant events, but I feel like I really learned a lot.

On Saturday, we had companionship exchanges with the Sister Training Leaders. I went with Sister Enknomin to the Celeb area. (This is the same area that I was in for my first two days in Mongolia). We visited with the cutest Grandma, and another member that I had met with previously. Sister Enknomin actually speaks pretty good English, but I tried to speak in Mongolian as much as possible. That was good for me. While we walked around we worked on memorizing D&C 4--I worked on it in Mongolian, and Sister Enknomin worked on it in English. I decided I like working on goals while we walk, so I'm going to try to implement that more. From Sister Enknomin I learned the importance of following the promptings of the Holy Ghost. Before we left home that morning, she kept saying she felt like she was forgetting something. We couldn't decide what it was, so we ended up leaving without it. As we walked it began to rain--yes, we forgot the umbrella. The umbrella is so simple, but it taught me that it really is important to listen to all the promptings we receive. I'm trying to be better at that.

We met President Benson and his family on Saturday night. They introduced themselves, and gave us the opportunity to ask them questions etc. The entire family was in attendance. They have four children--the oldest is nine, and the youngest child is two. The kids seemed a little tired, but overall happy. President Benson's Mongolian is actually pretty good (we were all impressed), and Sister Benson is working on remembering her Mongolian. It was fun to meet them, and I'm looking forward to working with them for the rest of my mission.

This week we didn't have the opportunities to meet with many investigators, but we met with a lot of less active members. Since I arrived, we have been telling the ward mission leader in our meetings that the less active members need home teaching and visiting teaching visits each month. Yesterday, the Visiting Teaching supervisor in our ward came up to us on the verge of tears. I felt so bad for her. She explained that for the past months the ward has had 0% VTing. I honestly don't think that they even understand what visiting teaching is. This week, our goal is to visit teach the Relief Society Presidency. We're going to teach them the visiting teaching lesson and then invite them to go do their visiting teaching. Every calling and every role is extremely important in the church. If the active ward members would actively do their visiting teaching and home teaching, I'm confident that there would be far fewer less active members. It's a work in progress...

Last night Sister Largin and I ate dinner with Elder and Sister Gardner. The Gardners arrived in Mongolia in October, and they are in charge of the English library. We were invited along with two other Mongolian sisters. We ate salad, spaghetti, rolls, and cake. It was a delicious meal, and it was fun to get to know them better.

Well, this week is Nadaam. I'm not sure what that means for us as far as missionary work goes, but I'll let you know next week.

I love you!
