Dear Family and Friends,
It's true, serving in two areas has some perks. The biggest being we have twice as many people to meet with. (When your areas are Unur and Sukhbaatar though, that's not saying much)! Unfortunately, in order to meet with all of those people we spend a ridiculous amount of time riding on buses. It all works out though, and we've taught some really great lessons this week.
There are two Unur investigators who are struggling to follow the Word of Wisdom. They are old friends, and their weakness is alcohol. We met with one of them and taught a great lesson about the ability to overcome addiction. Well, as soon as we said the closing prayer he started smoking. I must have been giving him a "look" because then he turned to me and said, "I don't drink anymore, and I'm working on not smoking." Okay, that's fine. Well, when his other investigator friend (who was kind of drunk) and two other drunk friends showed up the one we taught the lesson to started giving them more alcohol. Come on man, help your friends! Then they started talking about the blonde girl sitting in the room and I was like, "Okay, we need to go..." That was a fun lesson.
All of the missionaries were asked to read the Book of Mormon again in 90 days. This week as I studied from 1 Nephi chapter 9, I really liked these verses. "5 Wherefore, the Lord hath commanded me to make these plates for a wise purpose in him, which purpose I know not. 6 But the Lord knoweth all things from the beginning; wherefore, he prepareth a way to accomplish all his works among the children of men; for behold, he hath all power unto the fulfilling of all his words. And thus it is. Amen." Sometimes when I think about this last transfer I ask myself, "Why me?" It hasn't been bad, but if I had a choice I would choose to have just one companion who became my really good friend. Anyway, when I read this scripture I realized that Heavenly Father has a plan for each of us. I have learned so many things from all six of my companions, and I have really grown a lot during these last twelve weeks. We may not always understand everything, but we always need to have faith. I'm trying to remember that as we face this new transfer...Anything could happen.
It's going to be a great week!
Love, Sister Magleby
