This week we began our mission marathon. I'm really enjoying it. We get 90 minutes of personal study and 90 minutes of companion study. We also learn really great and applicable things--who would have thought!? We get points based on task completion (getting up at 6:30, exercising, studying), and if you ask me it's really not difficult to do well. However, for some of us it's proving to be a little difficult. My hopes and dreams of winning are slowly dissipating, but I'm remaining optimistic and I hope that this week turns out better.
Last week people were walking around with umbrellas because it was rainy and cold. On Saturday people were walking around with umbrellas to shade themselves from the scorching sun. I've experienced this bipolar weather before... In terms of weather/climate: Rexburg is Mongolia. Of course I can't say that to the Mongolians because it hurts their Mongolian pride, but I think it all of the time. I guess I grew up in the right place.
This week we ran into a member of our branch that I hadn't seen for a while. His comment, "Wow, are you ever going to leave!" We laughed about it, and talked for a few minutes before heading down the road. On the way down the mountain Sister Lonjidpil started freaking out about the next transfer. She was on the verge of tears at the thought that we might be split apart. She told me she's going to write a letter to President Benson today asking to be my companion again. It worked for her last time, so maybe it will work again. I really love Sister Lonjidpil and we have a lot of fun together. If we're supposed to be together again we will be. God has a plan for each of us. I guess we'll see what God's plan is for our companionship in the coming weeks.
This week Hosbayar got baptized. It was easily the most stressful baptism I've ever been in charge of. At the last minute the branch president couldn't come, not many people showed up, the water was coming out somewhat yellow, his sister and cousins were running around wild.... We pulled it off successfully though. He looked so cute dressed in his suit and tie. His aunt came on Friday night and Sundayand might even be our new investigator...I'm hoping that works according to our plan!
This week we met with Munkhshur and for the first time her mom was actually interested. Usually she tells us that she will send Munkhshur to church, but that she'll never come herself. I'm hoping to change that, but I'll have to tread carefully. Munkhshur will be getting baptized next week and I hope that her whole family will come and watch.
Our other investigators aren't doing so great. Otgonchimeg's family came from the countryside and they really don't like the church. According to her member sister, she wants to meet with us but we'll have to wait a little longer. They're currently working on a plan. Tsolmon's family also doesn't like the church. Even if she starts regularly coming to church we're not sure that her husband will approve of her baptism. And Purevsuren tells us every week that she's going to come to church and never does. Sometimes people are just frustrating! I try to love them though, and I pray for them everyday.
Yesterday was Children's Day. Like Mother's Day and Father's Day, but for Children. Why don't we celebrate that in America? One man bore his testimony in church and said that we should technically all be celebrating because we're all God's Children. I liked his logic.
Love, Sister Magleby
