Winter is here. There were small snow flurries in the sky yesterday and when I look out my window the distant mountains are covered in snow. This week I dug out my medium coat, warmer tights, and all that jazz. Hopefully these items will get me through the next few weeks until I have to pull out the "real" winter gear.
The good news is that while the skies may be cold and gray my English students know how to sing, "You Are My Sunshine." I specifically taught them this song because I love it, and it always brightens my day. We're currently preparing for a small parent recital which will be held next week where they will sing a variety of English and Mongolian songs. Today my English responsibilities decreased because my sponsor feels shorter lessons are better for the children. I will now be teaching English for one hour each day which makes everyone a little more happy.
This week we had a wonderful zone training in place of our regular district meeting. We learned all about the fun duck-like masks we get to wear during the winter to protect our lungs from pollution. I can't wait to send you a picture of that! We also received spiritual instruction which was focused on planning with faith. While numbers don't really matter, a good goal will help us do good work and having a plan will allow Heavenly Father to help us teach well.
A few weeks ago we found Tsengelbayar, a new investigator who was really interested in our message. She now seems to have dropped off the face of the Earth as she has not been to church for two weeks and doesn't answer our calls.
Erdensowd is struggling with the Word of Wisdom. She lives with her mother and when she goes home from work they drink tea together. She has a desire to follow the Word of Wisdom, but I think she's scared to tell her mother 'no.' She understands the doctrine very well, but now we're trying to help her live it. This is difficult as we can't live the Word of Wisdom for her, but I know that if we have faith Heavenly Father will guide us in how to help her.
We're still helping Bolganjargal prepare for baptism. Her baptismal date is now set for October 4th. In the beginning we postponed her baptism because she wasn't really "living" the gospel. She is now truly "living" the gospel and her testimony has become very strong because of it. We've retaught a couple of key principles that we somehow didn't teach well enough the first time and in my opinion she is definitely ready for baptism. I'm praying that nothing gets in the way this time.
Some days I feel like every thing's falling apart here. Our investigators don't have time to meet, I can't speak Mongolian...the list could go on and on. But then I remember the simple truths that as missionaries we share every day. Heavenly Father loves us and we are his children. He knows our needs and our concerns. He will help us, and he will bless us. I have no doubt in my mind that this is true!
Love, Sister Magleby
